The ZW4SF Z-Wave Fan Speed controller works with most ceiling fans. To be 100% certain we need to look closer at the fan and the control options that are included with the fan.
Fan manufacturers tend to take 3 approaches towards fan speed control:
- Pull chain speed control
- If a fan uses a pull chain, set the fan to high and it will be compatible with the ZW4SF controller.
- If a fan uses a pull chain, set the fan to high and it will be compatible with the ZW4SF controller.
- The fan includes an RF Kit that includes a receiver and a transmitter
- If the receiver can be disconnected and the fan wired to high speed the ZW4SF controller will be compatible.
- If the receiver can be disconnected and the fan wired to high speed the ZW4SF controller will be compatible.
- The fan speed receiver or power line controls are built into the fan motor and cannot be removed
- Unfortunately these systems are proprietary, determining compatibility may require research or asking the manufacture if their fan can be controlled by a 3rd party fan speed controller
- In some cases the digital controls can be set to 100% and work properly
- Several incompatibilities have been reported
- Fan will turn off if the selected speed is lowered below 100%
- When turned on the fan will not turn unless a button from the RF remote is pressed
- Fan must be set to 100% before changing to a lower speed
- Unfortunately these systems are proprietary, determining compatibility may require research or asking the manufacture if their fan can be controlled by a 3rd party fan speed controller
In all cases a ZW4SF is not designed to control a fan light kit
- The lights will need to be controlled on an additional conductor and separate dimmer such as the DZ6HD.
